Intermediate Power 120

Introduction

Intermediate Power is an online course, consisting of 100 units of English, and providing approximately 120 hours of study for students.

Course aims

To take students from Intermediate, CEFR B1 up to B2. The course blends grammatical structures necessary for this level, with vocabulary, spelling, reading, listening, writing, and speaking.

Grammar

  • Form sentences in the present, past, and future, in the affirmative, negative, and interrogative forms, including continuous forms for present actions.
  • Form sentences using the present perfect to talk about past experience, news headlines, and unfinished past, and know the limitations and time expressions used with the tense (e.g., since, for, already, yet).
  • Use simple passive forms and distinguish between active and passive voice usage.
  • Use relative pronouns to form relative clauses.
  • Use conditional forms for future possibilities, unlikely situations, and alternative present situations and their results.
  • Connect sentences using conjunctions and other linking words.
  • Identify transitive and intransitive verbs and follow one verb form with another in the gerund or infinitive form.
  • Use articles correctly.

Vocabulary

By the end of the course, students will have learned approximately 800 lexical items, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, phrasal verbs, idiomatic language, and lexical sets.

Skills

By the end of the course, students will have practiced reading and hearing formal and informal English in a variety of registers, contexts, descriptions, stories, and opinions.
