Focus on TOEFL

Introduction

Focus on TOEFL is an online course designed for students who are thinking of taking the TOEFL exam. It consists of 12 modules and 200 units of English and provides approximately 120 hours of study for students.

Course aims

  • Take students from CEFR B2 up to C1.
  • Provide coaching and practice in all areas of the TOEFL exam to ensure students are fully prepared when taking the test.
  • Blend grammatical structures necessary for this level with vocabulary, including collocations, phrasal verbs, idioms, spelling, reading, listening, writing, and speaking.

Grammar

By the end of the course, students will be able to…

      • Use present, past, and future tenses accurately in the simple and continuous forms.
      • Be proficient in the use of perfect tenses in the simple and continuous forms.
      • Use conditionals to talk about real and unreal situations in present, past, and future.
      • Report what people said using correct verb forms and appropriate reporting verbs.
      • Talk about actions and states using active and passive forms appropriately.
      • Use modal verbs for various functions and past modals when necessary.
      • Use linking words and phrases to express ideas such as addition, contrast, reason, and conclusion.
      • Use verbs correctly regarding transitivity and what forms follow them.
      • Compare adjectives and adverbs using advanced comparatives and superlatives.
      • Talk about quantity.

Vocabulary

      • Learn approximately 1000 lexical items, including gradable and non-gradable adjectives, adverbs, phrasal verbs, idiomatic language, and lexical sets.

Skills

      • Gain exposure to and practice in reading and listening to formal and informal materials from a range of settings and registers.
