Introduction
Advanced Plus Power is an online course, consisting of 100 units of English, and providing approximately 120 hours of study for students.
Course aims
To consolidate and extend the sophistication, accuracy, and range of English of advanced-level students at C2 level. The course blends grammatical structures necessary for this level with vocabulary, spelling, reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
Grammar
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Manipulate word order to create subtlety of meaning, emphasis, and humor.
- Use cleft sentences to deflect difficult questions and take possession of an argument.
- Use more complex passive forms and know when to use the active voice and passive voice.
- Use relative clauses to give essential and non-essential information.
- Use conditional forms for a variety of situations and explore subtle variations of meaning through manipulating verb forms.
- Connect sentences using conjunctions and connecting words.
- Accurately follow one verb with another in gerund or infinitive form.
- Report statements and questions using advanced verb forms.
- Use past forms of modal verbs to express possibility, regret, certainty, and negative certainty.
- Use present and past subjunctives, inversion, and other advanced structures for emphasis.
Vocabulary
By the end of the course, students will have learned approximately 800 lexical items, including phrasal verbs, idiomatic language, registers, and lexical sets.
