The verb ‘to be’ in passive sentences<\/h2>\n

The verb ‘to be’<\/span> is used together with the third form of the verb (Past Participle form<\/span>) in passive sentences.<\/p>\n

For example:<\/p>\n

ACTIVE: I eat an apple.<\/p>\n

PASSIVE: The apple is<\/span> eaten.<\/p>\n

More examples:<\/p>\n

People buy cars. –> Cars are<\/span> bought. ( Present Simple )<\/p>\n

Someone turned on the light. –> The light was<\/span> turned on. ( Past Simple)<\/p>\n

He will clean the house. –> The house will<\/span> be cleaned. ( Future Simple)<\/p>\n

Progressive Forms of the verb ‘to be’<\/h2>\n

The progressive form of the verb “to be” is ‘ being.’<\/span><\/p>\n

This means the action is ongoing (continuing).<\/p>\n

The little boy is being<\/span> naughty.<\/p>\n

She was being<\/span> rude, but then she apologized.<\/p>\n
