Focus on C1 Advanced (CAE)

Introduction

Focus on CAE is an online course designed for students who are thinking of taking the Cambridge Advanced exam. It consists of 12 modules and 200 units of English and provides approximately 120 hours of study for students.

Course aims

• Take students from Elementary CEFR C1 up to C2.
• Provide coaching and practice in all areas of the CAE exam to ensure students are fully prepared when taking the test.
• Blend grammatical structures necessary for this level with vocabulary, spelling, reading, listening, writing, and speaking.

By the end of the course, students will be able to…

• • • Talk and write confidently about the past, present, and future using a variety of verb forms.
    • Use the continuous and perfect aspect, present and past habit.
    • Form sentences in present, past, and future perfect in simple and continuous forms.
    • Use more complex passive forms and know when to use active or passive voice.
    • Use causatives to denote arranging to have something done.
    • Use defining and non-defining relative clauses.
    • Use all general conditional forms, including first, second, third, and mixed.
    • Use wish structures in the present, past, and future.
    • Identify transitive and intransitive verb forms and be accurate in following one verb form with another (gerund or infinitive).
    • Recognize the different uses of the verb “need” in modal and non-modal contexts.
    • Use modal verbs in general and more subtle ways to express differences in nuance, formality, and register.
    • Use question tags to form questions from statements.
    • Use articles correctly.
    • Use “I’d rather” or “It’s time + subject + past form” to express present needs and wishes.

• • • Learn approximately 1000 lexical items including nouns, verbs, adjectives, phrasal verbs, idiomatic language, different English registers, and lexical sets.
