In this friendly guide, I&#8217;m going to cover three main types of questions in English that you can use again and again in real life.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceNonEditable clearboth\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceNonEditable clearboth\"><\/div>\n<h2>1. Yes\/No questions<\/h2>\n<p>This type of question is usually the easiest to ask and answer. &#8216;<strong>Yes\/No<\/strong>&#8216; questions are questions to which the answer is <strong>Yes <\/strong>or <strong>No<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We make Yes\/No questions by so-called &#8216;inversion&#8217;, which means that we change the order of words in the sentence by putting the the <b>auxialiary verb <\/b>for example: are, will, had, have before <strong>the subject<\/strong> of the sentence- they, you, she, I, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The basic structure for yes\/no questions looks like this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>[Auxiliary Verb] + [Subject] + [Main Verb] + [Object or Other Information] + ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><span class=\"example\"><strong>Are <\/strong>they working hard?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">More examples:<br \/>\n<strong>Will <\/strong>you be working hard?<br \/>\n<strong>Had <\/strong>she worked hard?<br \/>\n<strong>Have <\/strong>I been working hard?<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Famous song with &#8216;Yes\/No Questions&#8217;:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BN1WwnEDWAM?wmode=opaque&amp;theme=dark\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>2. Wh-questions<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Wh-questions<\/strong> are questions which start with a <strong>question-asking<\/strong> <strong>word<\/strong>, either a <strong>Wh- word<\/strong> (<strong><em>what<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>when<\/em><\/strong>, <em><strong>where<\/strong><\/em>, <strong><em>which<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>who<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>whose<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>why, who<\/em><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>We form wh-questions with these words by putting the <strong>question word<\/strong> in <strong>front <\/strong>of a <strong>Yes\/No question<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>The structure of a \u201cwh- question\u201d is usually like this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>[\u201cWh-\u201d Question Word\/Phrase] + [Auxiliary Verb] + [Subject] + [Main Verb] + [Object or Other Information] + ?:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Where<\/strong> <u>are they working?<\/u><br \/>\n<strong>Why <\/strong><u>have they been working hard?<\/u><br \/>\n<strong>Where <\/strong><u>does he work?<\/u><br \/>\n<strong>Where <\/strong><u>will you go?<\/u><br \/>\n<strong>When <\/strong><u>did they arrive?<\/u><br \/>\netc.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"example\"><strong>Wh-questions<\/strong> can be used to ask about the <strong>subject <\/strong>or <strong>object <\/strong>of the verb.<\/span> Compare these questions:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Who loves Lucy?<br clear=\"none\" \/><\/em><em>Who does Lucy love?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"info\">For <strong>subject <\/strong>questions, the order is <strong>question word + verb + object<\/strong>. If <strong>who<\/strong>, <strong>which<\/strong>, <strong>what<\/strong> on <strong>the subject<\/strong> of the question, do not use do, does, did, e.g:<\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Who invented <\/em><\/strong><em>the telephone? ( not Who did invent the telephone?)<\/em><em><br clear=\"none\" \/><\/em><strong><em>Who loves <\/em><\/strong><em>Lucy? ( not Who does love Lucy?)<\/em><em><br clear=\"none\" \/><\/em><strong><em>Which album brought <\/em><\/strong><em>fame to Queen? ( not Which album did bring the fame to Queen?)<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"info\">The <strong>object <\/strong>question form is<strong> question word + auxiliary + subject + verb<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<p><strong><em>What did you<\/em><\/strong><em> <strong>do<\/strong> at the weekend?<br clear=\"none\" \/><\/em><strong><em>Where does your brother <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>work<\/em><\/strong><em>?<br clear=\"none\" \/><\/em><strong><em>Who will you<\/em><\/strong><em> <strong>ask <\/strong>for help?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"example\"><strong>Questions with how:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We use how for many different questions:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><strong>How <\/strong>are you?<br \/>\n<strong>How <\/strong>do you make questions in English?<br \/>\n<strong>How long <\/strong>have you lived here?<br \/>\n<strong>How often <\/strong>do you go to the cinema?<br \/>\n<strong>How much <\/strong>is this dress?<br \/>\n<strong>How old <\/strong>are you?<br \/>\n<strong>How many <\/strong>people came to the meeting?<\/p>\n<div class=\"rteindent1 mceNonEditable clearboth\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Famous songs with &#8216;WH-questions&#8217;:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><strong>&#8211; \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=T6fVDAjs9f0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">When Will I See You Again?<\/a>\"<\/strong> <strong>by<\/strong><strong> The Three Degrees <\/strong>(Future simple \u2014 This song also has many other questions in the lyrics.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">&#8211;<strong>\"<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Xl3QoD6wiDI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Where Did All the Love Go?<\/a>\u201d by Kasabian <\/strong>(Past Simple tense)<\/p>\n<h2>3. Indirect questions:<\/h2>\n<p>We use phrases like these <strong>in front of a statement<\/strong> to ask questions:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><strong>Do you know\u2026?
