Nouns like news, information, advice, milk, furniture, luggage or hair are reallly tricky, so be careful when you make their plural forms! <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Countable nouns<\/h2>\n<p>These are nouns you can count! They are for things we see as individual items and not part of a greater whole. They can be used with indefinite articles ( a, an=one) and have a plural form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A table<\/strong>&#8211;<strong> 2 tables<\/strong>, <strong>a chair &#8211; 4<\/strong><strong> chairs<\/strong>, <strong>a person -12<\/strong> <strong>people<\/strong>, <strong>an apple-<\/strong> <strong>10<\/strong> <strong>apples<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"mceNonEditable clearboth\"><\/div>\n<h2>Uncountable nouns<\/h2>\n<p>These are nouns for things we don&#8217;t see as individual items. Some are usually countable, like <strong>chair<\/strong>, <strong>room<\/strong>, <strong>canci\u00f3n <\/strong>and <strong>suitcase<\/strong>. Most nouns, though, can be either countable or uncountable. It doesn&#8217;t depend on the noun but on the context, on how it is being viewed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4776\" src=\"https:\/\/letslearnenglish.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/countable-and-uncountable-nouns-3-638_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"535\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/letslearnenglish.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/countable-and-uncountable-nouns-3-638_1.jpg 535w, https:\/\/letslearnenglish.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/countable-and-uncountable-nouns-3-638_1-470x313.jpg 470w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 535px) 100vw, 535px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For example, many nouns for food and drink items such as <strong>cheese<\/strong>, <strong>water<\/strong>, <strong>milk<\/strong>,<strong> rice<\/strong>,<strong> sugar <\/strong>and<strong> butter <\/strong>are normally regarded as uncountable nouns.
