This is because the examiner listens for the way you vary your grammar, not just if you make mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>This is a skill you need mostly in part 1 and 3 parts of the Speaking test.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97\" src=\"https:\/\/letslearnenglish.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/future-SIMPLE-WEB-page-001-1024x724.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"724\" srcset=\"https:\/\/letslearnenglish.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/future-SIMPLE-WEB-page-001-1024x724.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/letslearnenglish.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/future-SIMPLE-WEB-page-001-1024x724-470x332.jpg 470w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, there are loads of more ways of talking about the future. It&#8217;s not all about verbs and tenses, see these examples:<\/p>\n<h3>1)We often use verbs like &#8221;<strong><em>would like&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, &#8220;<strong><em>plan&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, &#8220;<strong><em>want&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, &#8220;<strong><em>mean&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, &#8220;<strong><em>hope&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, &#8220;<strong><em>expect&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> to talk about the future:<\/h3>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">What are you going to do next year? <strong>I&#8217;d like to go <\/strong>to University.<br \/>\n<strong>We plan to go <\/strong>to France for our holidays.<br \/>\nGeorge <strong>wants to buy <\/strong>a new car.<\/p>\n<h3>2) We use <strong>modals: &#8220;<em>may&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, &#8220;<strong><em>might&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, and &#8220;<strong><em>could&#8221; <\/em><\/strong>when we are <strong>not sure <\/strong>about the future:<\/h3>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><strong>I might stay <\/strong>at home tonight, or <strong>I might go <\/strong>to the cinema.<br \/>\n<strong>We could see <\/strong>Mary at the meeting. She sometimes goes.<\/p>\n<h3>6. We can use &#8220;<strong><em>should&#8221; <\/em><\/strong>if we think something is <strong>likely to happen<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\"><strong>We should be <\/strong>home in time for tea.<br \/>\n<strong>The game should be <\/strong>over by eight o&#8217;clock.<\/p>\n<h3>7. Clauses with <strong>time words<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n<p>In clauses with time words like <em><strong>when<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>after<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>until <\/strong><\/em>we often use a <strong>present tense <\/strong>form to talk about the future:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">I&#8217;ll come home <strong>when I finish <\/strong>work.<br \/>\nYou must wait here <strong>until your father comes<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThey are coming <strong>after they have had <\/strong>dinner.<\/p>\n<h3>8. Clauses with <em><strong>if<\/strong><\/em>:<\/h3>\n<p>In clauses with <strong><em>if<\/em><\/strong> we often use a <strong>present tense <\/strong>form to talk about the future:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">We won&#8217;t be able to go out <strong>if it rains<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong>If Barcelona win <\/strong>tomorrow they will be champions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"alert\"><strong>WARNING<\/strong>: We do not normally use <strong><em>will <\/em><\/strong>in clauses with <strong><em>if<\/em><\/strong> or with<strong> time words<\/strong>:<\/div>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">I&#8217;ll come home <strong>when I <\/strong><s>will<\/s><strong> finish work<\/strong>.<br \/>\nWe won&#8217;t be able to go out <strong>if it <\/strong><s>will rain<\/s><strong> rains<\/strong>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One very good way to prepare for your IELTS speaking is to practise different ways of talking about the future.
